Something about Mrs. J. Smith
I am starting my 17th year of teaching. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade along with 4th grade summer school. I received my Bachelors degree from LSUS in 2002. I am graduated with my Masters in Educational Leadership in July 2016!!!
I am the wife of a retired Army Sergeant and the mother of a sweet guy named Hayden, who is an alum of Forest Hill. Helping others, especially children, is my passion. If there is ever anything I can do for you do not hesitate to ask.
Kindergarten thru second grade is implementing CKLA for their reading curriculum this year. There are two strands: Skills and knowledge.
Third thru Fifth grade is continuing to implement Guidebooks 2.0. In order for students to grow in reading comprehension they need to be enriched in complex texts. Guidebooks does just this.

In order for our boys and girls to be successful they need to read at least 20 minutes a day. This can be a fun read or literature for school. Encourage your child(ren) to participate in Accelerated Reader and other reading programs.
There are many reading websites that are available for free. Here are a few that would be a great resource:
